A Holiday in Chiang Rai

About a Chiang Rai Holiday

The province of Chiang Rai is situated in Northern Thailand amongst picturesque mountains, forests, rivers, temples and tribes. Unspoilt by mass touristic incursion, it is infused with outstanding scenery, rusticity and cultural diversity. Evident in the architecture and surroundings are relics of the past civilizations who have dwelt here, giving the town a charming appeal that holiday makers find hard to resist. Still today you will see a vast array of ethnic minorities, each abiding by their own sets of customs and beliefs, yet still living harmoniously side by side in the mountains, and thus adding to Chiang Rai’s fascinating character.

Shopping at the Night Bazaar

Chiang Rai holidays are a thriving hive of activity, fusing the threads of different tribes together to make a colourful blend of animated street life. On holidays here, you will find great deals on the markets and stalls selling fresh food, flowers, clothes and souvenirs from all the walks of life inhabiting Chiang Rai. The fall of dusk sees the opening of the Chiang Rai ‘Night Bazaar’, a more comprehensive market which, alongside handicrafts, jewellery and arts, has bustling cabaret shows, food stalls and bars. Chiang Rai’s very own taste of the diversely exotic, and a must see for any holiday.

Chiang Rai Sights & Attractions

A holiday to Chiang Rai is not withough things to see and do. There are some interesting museums and historical sites to visit in the town of Chiang Rai, notably the Hill Tribe and Chiang Saen National Museums. However should you wish to venture further afield; Chiang Rai holidays make an excellent base for exploring the surrounding scenery of Northern Thailand. The Mae Kok River runs right through Chiang Rai and is the focal point for many trips and excursions. Just 18miles north of Chiang Rai is The Golden Triangle, a very popular destination for holidays. Bordered by the Mekong River, Burma and Laos, the Golden triangle is known as the former opium producing region of Thailand

Chiang Rai Activities & Weather

Holidays to Chiang Rai will not disappoint. The stunning scenery makes a fantastic backdrop for a range of exciting activities. The best way to explore the spectacular landscape of mountains and jungles is atop an elephant on one of the wonderful trekking expeditions running from Chiang Rai. Tours to see the local hill tribes in their natural surroundings are also not to be missed. Chiang Rai enjoys a tropical climate, which means mostly warm and humid and governed by monsoons. Being amid the mountains, temperatures are slightly cooler than in the lowlands and evenings here can be quite chilly. Hot season can be unbearably hot with temperatures reaching as high as 40 degrees.
